DiscVault Legacy to DiscVault 26

Move your collection
without losing your shelf.

Install DiscVault 26 next to your old DiscVault Legacy app, stop Legacy, check the data path and ports if you customized them, then follow the guided migration wizard.

  • Legacy stays available until you are ready
  • DiscVault 26 is installed as a new app
  • The wizard guides authentication and import
  • Back up first and keep paths unchanged

DiscVault 26 detects your Legacy install and starts the guided migration.

Before you start

Prepare Legacy once, then migrate from DiscVault 26.

The migration is easiest when the old app is stopped, the new app is installed next to it, and the same persistent data path is available to DiscVault 26.

Step 1

Back up Legacy

Create a backup from the old DiscVault app or copy the persistent data directory while the container is stopped.

Step 2

Stop the old app

Stop the Legacy container before starting DiscVault 26, especially when both apps would use the same data path or port.

Step 3

Check paths and ports

If you changed the default data path or port numbers earlier, copy those settings into the new DiscVault 26 app before launching it.

Optional

You can stay on DiscVault Legacy.

Upgrading is not mandatory. If you want to keep using the old version, change your Docker image from discvault:latest to discvault:legacy.

Important

Legacy no longer receives updates

After July 1, 2026, updating an installation that still tracks discvault:latest may install DiscVault 26. With the old Unraid Community App this can lead to a corrupted installation.

Choose before July 1, 2026

  • To stay on Legacy, change the image to discvault:legacy before updating.
  • To move to DiscVault 26, perform the upgrade before July 1, 2026 using one of the routes below.
  • Do not keep the old Unraid Community App on discvault:latest and run updates after that date.
discvault:latest  ->  discvault:legacy

Legacy update message

The last Legacy version points you to DiscVault 26.

When you open the latest DiscVault Legacy release, you may see a “New version available” message. This is an informational notice, not a forced upgrade.

What the message means

  • The popup links to more information about DiscVault 26 and the migration process.
  • The Update page explains that Legacy is no longer supported after July 1, 2026.
  • You can hide the popup for the next opening, but you should still choose either discvault:legacy or the DiscVault 26 upgrade route.

Your choice stays the same

Use discvault:legacy to stay on the old version, or install DiscVault 26 with the Unraid or Docker route below. Do not keep updating an old discvault:latest install after July 1, 2026.

Recommended route

Unraid: install DiscVault 26 from Community Apps.

On Unraid, leave the old DiscVault template in place, stop it, and install the new DiscVault 26 app beside it from the Community App store.

01

Stop DiscVault Legacy

Open the Docker tab in Unraid and stop the old DiscVault app. Do not delete it until the migration is verified.

02

Install DiscVault 26

Open Apps, search for DiscVault 26, and install the new Community Apps template next to the old app.

03

Match data path and ports

If you customized mappings in Legacy, make sure DiscVault 26 points to the same data location and uses free host ports.

04

Start DiscVault 26

Start the new app, open the web UI, and let the migration wizard guide the import from Legacy.

Second route

Docker: deploy the DiscVault 26 image.

For a regular Docker setup, deploy the DiscVault 26 image, keep your persistent data mounted, and then use the same migration wizard.

DiscVault 26 image

Use the v26 image for the new container:

ghcr.io/helmerzNL/DiscVault:latest

Docker steps

  1. Stop the old DiscVault Legacy container.
  2. Deploy a new container with the v26 image.
  3. Mount the same persistent data path and set host ports that are not already in use.
  4. Open DiscVault 26 and continue with the migration wizard below.

Migration wizard

Follow the guided steps inside DiscVault 26.

After installing DiscVault 26, the wizard walks you through authentication, checks, confirmation, progress, and launch.

01

Open DiscVault 26 and choose the Legacy migration flow when the start screen appears.

02

Authenticate

Use your current Legacy passkey so the wizard can confirm you are allowed to migrate the collection.

03

Review detected data

Check the source path, users, collection data, metadata, and settings that DiscVault 26 found.

04

Choose scope

Review the migration options and leave the defaults selected unless you have a specific reason to skip a part.

05

Confirm ready screen

Read the final summary and start the migration only when the source and target look correct.

06

Wait for progress

Keep the DiscVault 26 container running while the wizard imports data and shows live progress.

07

Finish migration

When the finished screen appears, review the status and keep the backup until you have checked the new app.

08

Start DiscVault 26

Launch DiscVault 26, then confirm your collection, users, passkeys, settings, posters, and lists are visible.

After migration

Keep Legacy stopped until you have checked DiscVault 26.

Verify your collection

Open the library and check movies, containers, posters, metadata, watchlists, and history.

Verify access

Confirm users, passkeys, roles, and admin access before removing or archiving the old app.

Keep the backup

Keep your Legacy backup until you are comfortable that DiscVault 26 has everything you need.
