1. Acceptance of these terms
By downloading, installing, or using the DiscVault app (the “App”), you agree to these Terms of Use (the “Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the App. The App is provided by DiscVault — VaultStack (“DiscVault”, “we”, “us”). If you use the App on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for it.
2. The App and licence
The App is a personal tool for cataloguing physical disc collections (4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and similar). Subject to these Terms and to Apple’s App Store terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, in line with the Apple Media Services Terms and the Usage Rules in Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA).
3. Self-hosted server and sign-in
The App can optionally connect to a DiscVault server that you host and administer. You are solely responsible for that server, including its setup, security, availability, lawful operation, and the data you store on it. Signing in uses your DiscVault passkey — the same passkey you created when setting up DiscVault — through a secure system browser session; no separate API key or password is required. Keep your device and passkey secure, since they grant access to your server through the App. The DiscVault server software is distributed separately under its own open-source licence, and these Terms do not govern that software.
4. The MovieVault metadata service
When you scan a barcode or search for a title, the App queries our MovieVault service to suggest metadata such as title, year, cover art, and format. You agree to use this service only through the App and for its intended purpose, and not to scrape it, overload it, circumvent its rate limits or security, or attempt unauthorised access. We may rate-limit, suspend, or discontinue the service, in whole or in part, at any time. Metadata is provided on an “as is” basis and may be incomplete or inaccurate; always verify important details yourself.
4.1 Metadata contributions
MovieVault maintains a shared metadata catalogue that improves over time. When you correct a title’s metadata or manually add a title with metadata (such as its name, year, cover art, cast, or disc format), those film/series facts may be contributed back to MovieVault to enrich that shared catalogue for all users. Today this is performed by your DiscVault server; a future version of the App may also offer to contribute directly.
By contributing metadata, you grant DiscVault — VaultStack a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable licence to use, store, reproduce, adapt, modify, combine, publish, and redistribute those metadata contributions as part of the shared catalogue, including making them available to other users. You represent that you have the right to contribute the metadata and that it does not infringe any third party’s rights. Because contributions are merged and aggregated into the shared catalogue and are not linked to your identity, individual contributions generally cannot be withdrawn once submitted. Contributed metadata consists of facts about films and series — not your collection, ownership records, watchlist, watch history, or personal data.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the App or MovieVault service to break any applicable law or infringe anyone’s rights.
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App except to the extent the law expressly permits.
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the MovieVault service or its infrastructure.
- Use automated means to access the MovieVault service outside of normal use of the App.
- Misrepresent or resell metadata obtained through the service as your own dataset.
6. Your content
The library data you create belongs to you. It is stored on your device and, if you choose, on your own server. You are responsible for keeping your own backups and for the lawfulness of the content you catalogue. The App is intended to help you organise physical media that you own; it does not provide, stream, or distribute films, series, or other copyrighted works.
7. Intellectual property
The App, its design, and the DiscVault and VaultStack names and logos are owned by us or our licensors. Metadata, descriptions, and cover art surfaced through MovieVault originate from third-party sources and remain the property of their respective owners; they are made available for identification and cataloguing purposes only. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of those third-party materials to you.
8. Privacy
Our handling of data is described in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. The App is privacy-first: it requires no account, uses no tracking or advertising, and keeps your library on your device or your own server.
9. Availability and changes to the App
We may update, change, or discontinue the App or any feature (including the MovieVault service) at any time. We are not obligated to provide updates, support, or continued availability of any online component.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The App and the MovieVault service are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App or service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that metadata will be accurate or complete. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some of the above may not apply to you.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DiscVault — VaultStack will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the App or the MovieVault service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including liability for intent or gross negligence, or your statutory consumer rights.
12. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or terminate your access to the MovieVault service if you breach these Terms or misuse the service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (such as Sections 7, 10, 11, and 14) will continue to apply.
13. Apple App Store terms
These Terms are between you and DiscVault — VaultStack only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. In the event of any conflict between these Terms and Apple’s applicable terms, Apple’s terms govern to the extent of the conflict for matters concerning the App Store.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes will be subject to the competent courts of the Netherlands, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
